I can't take the credit (or the blame?) for the pun.
But wondering how people feel about this. Great that we're finding ways to cut down on methane? Or slightly unnerved that we're tinkering with the animals to make it happen? Both?
To me is a bit like taking the paracetamol to put down your temperature, we are giving cows supplement to reduce the emissions. It seems a creative way to cure the effect and not the disease.
Interesting how creative humans are to protect their diet habits! How powerful would all this creativity be to tackle the problems of meet overconsumption and cattle’s life condition.
This article provokes too many questions:
1) What has been the change of the cow populations over the last century?
2) Have they always been that polluting?
3) Did we introduce something to their diet to boost milk or meat production?
And the (so called) branding is exceptionally stereotypical ;)
1) Global beef production has jumped 600% since 1950. (http://www.earth-policy.org/plan_b_updates/2013/update114)
2) No. Cows aren't inherently problematic from a pollution standpoint. Ginormous herds of cattle (and the associated exploitation of grasslands required to feed them), yes.
3). Yes. Antibiotics, growth hormones. Lord knows what else.
